How to Stretch the Shade Sails Properly

Why is it important to set shade sail well?

Proper sail tension is essential to achieve an aesthetically flawless result and optimal performance in terms of resistance to wind, rain or hail.


Tension is one of the most important factors in the installation process.The advantages of a well-stretched sail are:

1.Better wind resistance (the sail does not tear and does not cause bumps at the anchor points)

2.This prevents pockets of standing water from forming (waterproof sails)

3.This reduces the risk of tearing

4.Increased longevity of sailing and anchoring points

5.More aesthetic result

6.This reduces the risk of soiling the fabric

7.Better water flow (if they are tight, even the shading sails drain a little water!)

Very robust, the shading sails and turnbuckle have been specially designed to withstand very high voltages. We are aware that our turnbuckle are not the most affordable but they have been specifically designed to provide a long-lasting and effective voltage, unlike competing products.

We advise you to stretch your sails to the maximum. The optimum voltage can reach up to 60 or 70kg at each corner.

Optimal efficiency in case of rain (waterproof sails)

In the event of rain, a large amount of water may quickly accumulate in the waterproof sail if it is not well stretched.

The weight of this standing water can tear the sail, causing damage to the anchor points and furniture under the sail.

By stretching the sail properly and tilting one of the corners at least 1 metre, the water can flow very easily, thus guaranteeing optimal waterproofing.

Wind resistance

A waterproof sail can swell in windy weather, causing dangerous bumps and vibrations at the anchor points.

Waterproof sails can tear and anchor points, which are too tightly used, can be damaged.

The more stretched a sail is, the greater its "windbreak" effect. The fabric will remain firm, the sail will not vibrate and the strength of the wind will not be reflected at the anchor points.

This is also the case for shading sails. The more tense the sail, the easier it will be to circulate the air.

The well-stretched sails are perfectly resistant to the wind:

12 to 19km/h on the Beaufort scale for waterproof sails

20 to 29km/h on the Beaufort scale for shading sails
